The General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) Blitzer is an electromagnetic railgun developed for the US Navy and US Army and demonstrated between 2009 and 2016. The new cannon system replaces conventional propellant by electromagnetic fields to accelerate an artillery shells to unprecedented speeds and longer ranges. The Blitzer railgun has been developed to meet the mobility requirements of the US Army. The Blitzer delivers three to ten Mega Joules (3 MJ to 10 MJ) of energy output.
