The Helicopter Integrated Defensive Aids System (HIDAS) has been designed to detect, identify, prioritize, and counter threats to the Apache helicopter automatically without the need for crew intervention thanks to advanced sensors and intelligent software. It can be used in automatic, semi-automatic or manual mode greatly increasing situational awareness at times when crew workload is at its highest.
The HIDAS uses multi-spectral threat warning sensors to provide situational awareness and automatic, semi-automatic, and manual operation modes. It features a threat library with over 5,000 items. HIDAS provides enhanced survivability for Apache helicopters when deployed at the modern battlefield.
The HIDAS was developed to meet the requirements of the British Army for its Apache Longbows. Subsequently Kuwait in 2002, and Greece in 2003 ordered HIDAS integrated electronic warfare suite/defensive systems for their Apache Longbow helicopters thru the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.
