The US Navy’s Large Missile Vertical Launch System (LMVLS) is intended to provide the DDG 1000 class destroyers with the ability to launch hypersonic missiles. The system is an alternative to the Mark 41 launching device adding the ability to launch missiles with larger diameter. The LMVLS $20 million contract was awarded to General Dynamics Bath Iron Works on August 18, 2022. The launching device is expected to join the fleet in June 2024.
