The ThyssenKrupp and Blohm + Voss GmbH MEKO A-200 class ships are the next generation of surface combatants evolved from the MEKO-family and offered by Germany for the export market. They are able to accommodate advanced propulsion systems, sensors and weaponry while providing improved survivability using low-observable technologies and design. Retrofit and upgrade processes will be easily carried out thanks to a modular open architecture and cutting-edge construction techniques. The first MEKO A-200 boat was commissioned in 2006.

The MEKO A-200 Anti-Air Warfare (AAW) frigate has been developed to provide are air defense against advanced airborne threats. They feature two 16-cell VLS at the center of the ship and a 8-cell VLS at the stem deck. The APAR multi-function radar and SMART-L search radar employed onboard the LCF and F124-class frigates will be also provided for the A-200 frigates, integration of the AN/SPY-1F radar system is also possible. Eight Anti-ship missiles, 2 RAM close-in weapon systems, and a 127mm naval gun complete the weapon system. A helicopter hangar and flight deck are located at the stern of the ship for a single medium/light ASW helicopter.

The MEKO A-200 Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) class corvettes feature a towed array sonar and a variable depth sonar. Their VLS accommodates surface-to-air missiles and anti-submarine rockets. Up to two light ASW helicopters can be operated from this ship. Eight Anti-ship missiles, 2 RAM close-in weapon systems, and a 127mm naval gun complete the weapon system. The MEKO A-200 ASW corvette includes a 3D phased array radar and a 2D long range search radar. The MEKO A-200 ASW corvette has been ordered by the South African Navy (MEKO A-200 SAN). The four corvettes were delivered to South Africa between 2006 and 2007. Algeria (MEKO A-200 AN) has also ordered two class corvettes to be commissioned in 2015 and 2016.
The MEKO A-200 SAN vessels have been fitted with a new propulsion system called CODAG-WARP (COmbined Diesel And Gas - Waterjet And Refined Propellers) which combines propellers and waterjet propulsion. They have a maximum speed of 27 knots and a cruise speed of 20 knots. Thales Naval France and African Defence Systems (ADS) consortium outfitted the SAN ships with weapons and electronic systems in Simonstown, South Africa.

The MEKO A-200 EN is an improved variant sold to Eqypt in September 2018 with another three ships to be delivered after 2022 with the last one to be built in Egypt at the Alexandria Shipyard. These vessels feature the NS110 4D AESA radar, the VL Mica air defense system with 32 Mica NG missiles, eight MM40 Exocet Block 3 anti-ship missiles, MU90 torpedoes, 127/64 LW 127mm naval gun with Vulcano guided ammunition, and two 30mm guns. The ship also features the MASS countermeasures and the WASS acoustic countermeasures system. The first ship was delivered to Egypt in October 2022.
