The Taiwan conventional submarine program is aimed at delivering eight boats to the Taiwanese Navy beginning in 2024. The $16 billion program contract was awarded to CSBC and other companies in 2017 with the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology in charge of design and development of key technologies and components. These ships have been designed and will be built domestically by the Taiwanese Defense industry with some assistance from foreign companies. Taiwan may use these submarines to confront the neighboring People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in the event of an invasion of the island. The construction of the lead ship by CSBC Corporation started on November 24, 2020.
