The MEKO A ships are the next generation of surface combatants evolved from the MEKO-family and offered by Germany for the export market. They will accommodate advanced propulsion systems, sensors and weaponry while providing improved survivability using low-observable technologies and design. Retrofit and upgrade processes will be easily carried out thanks to a modular open architecture and cutting-edge construction techniques.
The MEKO A-100 corvettes have been designed to perform a wide variety of missions. According to customer specifications the MEKO A-100 ships will feature a displacement ranging from 800 to 2,500 tons. They can accommodate a medium size helicopter, vertical launched missiles (16), 8 anti-ship missiles, Close-In weapons, and small caliber guns. The Polish Navy procured only one ship under the Project 621 Gawron-class built by PGZ Stocznia Wojenna.

The Israel Navy's four MEKO A-100 stealth class corvettes were ordered in December 2014 as part of renewal of its fleet and to protect Israel's offshore gas facilities in the Eastern Mediterranean. ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems will built these missile boats under a 1.2 billion euro contract with Germany paying 300 million Euro and Israel the remaining 900 million Euro. Israel plans call for these ships to be fitted with undisclosed sensors and weapon systems produced locally by Israel companies thus boosting its combat capabilities. The procurement contract for four vessels was signed in late December 2014 with the ships to be commissioned by 2020.
