The Minerva-class corvettes were designed to perform coastal defense and sea patrol duties with outstanding air defense capability. These ships owned by the Italian Navy feature additional stores for future growth and reduced signature for enhanced survivability. The lead ship of this class, Minerva, was commissioned in 1987 and the last one, Sibilla, in 1991 totaling 8 vessels. The Minerva-class corvettes weapon system consists of one Albatros missile system, one 76mm naval gun, and six 324mm torpedo tubes.
In July 2015 Italy sold four Minerva class corvettes to the Bangladesh Coast Guard. These vessels were converted into Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs).
