These vessels are equipped with Type 1007 I-band radar, Type 2093 minehunting sonar, a 30mm gun and two PAP 104 Mk5 remote controlled submersibles (RCMDS 2). HMS Blyth and HMS Ramsey have extra armament comprising: three general purpose machine guns and two miniguns. The propulsion system consists of two Paxman Valenta, MAN, 6RP200E diesels producing a sustained power of 1523-hp which drives the Voith-Schneider propeller, and two Schottel bow thrusters. Under the United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Defense (MoD) Future Capabilities published in July 2004 the number of Sandown class mine-hunter vessels in service with the Royal Navy was slashed to eight.
