The APR-3E is a torpedo powered by a turbo water-jet solid-propellant rocket motor and is designed to destroy surfaced and submerged submarines at a depth of up to 800 meters and moving at speeds of up to 45 knots. It was developed to be released by airborne platforms such as helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft (Tu-142, Il-38, Ka-28, Mi-17). The APR-3E utilizes a passive acoustic homing head with the engine shut during gravity submersion along a spiral trajectory. The homing head can detect targets at ranges of up to 2,000 meters. Once the APR-3E has detected a potential target the engine ignites and the APR-3E is ensured to hit the designated target in 1 or 2 minutes which shortens the odds of the target applying countermeasures or getting away. The underwater missile has a top speed of 120 kph or 65 knots with an engine endurance of 113 seconds. The Russian missile torpedo can detect and engage targets below a maximum speed which is 45 knots for the APR-3E.

APR-3ME Grif

Group : Torpedoes
Status : Active
Origin : Russia
Contractor : Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV)
Initial Operational Capability (IOC) : August 2021
Total Production : ?

The APR-3ME Grif is an anti-submarine torpedo designed to be released from Kalibr OTRK rockets at ranges of up to 300 kilometers. The torpedo travels several hundred kilometers carried by the high speed Kalibr rocket and is released in the area where the hostile submarine is operating. It is very likely that the missile in charge of carrying the new torpedo can travel at supersonic speeds to minimize the possibility of the hostile submarine leaving the area and thus maximizing her destruction probability. The new APR-3ME Grif torpedo existence and start of serial production was made public in August 2021.
