The People's Liberation Army (PLA) DF-17 is a medium range ballistic missile (MRBM) equipped with DF-ZF hypersonic glide warheads. The DF-17 ballistic missile was first test fired successfully in November 1 and November 15 2017 and is expected to become operational by 2020. The US intelligence stated the existence of the new missile in December 2017. The DF-17 has a Circular Error Probable of several meters with the glide warheads achieving a speed above Mach 5. The DF-17 is less vulnerable to missile defense systems and will allow China to hit targets throughout the Pacific area.
