The Grom-2, 'Thunder' in English, is a precision guided cruise missile system developed by Russia's Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV) and derived from the Kh-38ME air-to-surface missile. The Grom-2 weapon weighs 250 kilogram and is provided with a 130 kg warhead which means that the new weapon is intended to hit target with outstanding accuracy while minimizing collateral damage. The Grom-2 cruise missile rocket motor allows to engage surface targets at ranges of up to 280 kilometers. It is the Russian counterpart to the US Air Force JSOW-ER stand-off weapon family. The Grom-2 weapon existence was revealed at MAKS air show outside Moscow on August 26, 2015.

The Grom-1 and Grom-2 weapon systems are provided with INS navigation combined with either laser, active radar, thermal-imaging or satellite guidance. Their modular design allows for integration of a variety of warheads. The new strike weapons have been designed for release by the Su-24M and Su-34 bombers and the Mig-29SMT tactical fighter aircraft. The Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter may carry up to four Grom-2 bombs internally.
