The Harpy is a fire and forget, all weather, day/night, autonomous weapon designed to destroy enemy radar sites without risking aircraft and pilots. The Harpy unmanned air vehicle is launched from a ground vehicle behind the battle zone. Once launched, the weapon remains loitering for hours over the battlefield searching for radar emitters. Once detected, the Harpy tracks the radar signal to its origin attacking and destroying the radar site. The Harpy has been designed to counter radar systems and specially those associated to Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAM). It has been successfully deployed in the Israel Armed Forces and other Armed Forces worldwide.
The upgraded Harpy NG featuring nose-mounted canard foreplanes and a new wing design similar to Harop loitering munition was introduced in the 2016-2017 timeframe. The Harpy NG has longer range/flight endurance, new anti-radiation seeker, enhanced flexibility and is optimized for suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD).

The Mini Harpy is a new tactical loitering munition developed by IAI on the basis of the Harpy loitering attack missile. The Mini Harpy combines the Harop and Harpy capabilities referred to radiation sensing and electro-optical (EO) capabilities. The new munition can be launched from a wide variety of mobile land and maritime platforms as well as from helicopters. The Mini Harop is launched to the target area controlled by an operator until detection of the intended target. The munition weighs 45 kilograms carrying a 8 kg shaped charge warhead and loitering for over two hours at a maximum range of 100 kilometers. The Mini Harpy was unveiled in February 2019.
