The CEC (Cooperative Engagement Capability) is a sensor networking system developed by Raytheon that helps air and sea platforms (basically surface combatants and E-2 aircraft) to share information in order to detect, target and kill fast moving airborne threats such as cruise missiles. CEC takes data from sensors, turns it into meaningful information and imparts knowledge to commanders. The CEC cornerstone is to locate potential threats with pinpoint accuracy to be targeted by surface combatants and combat aircraft.
As of April 2008, the US Navy plans call for the procurement of up to 306 CEC systems. To date, more than 102 CECs have been ordered with 58 already delivered. As of early 2011, the US Navy plans called for the procurement of 271 systems.
