FLAADS
Initial Operational Capability (IOC) : May 24, 2018
Total Production : ?
The Future Local Area Air Defence System (FLAADS) family of ground- and ship-based surface-to-air missile systems is an initiative sponsored by the United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Defense (MoD) in support of its armed forces. The FLAADS leverages technologies developed for the Sea Viper weapon system in service on the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers. The FLAADS Command and Control (C2) system features greater than 75% commonality of Sea Viper C2 software. The FLAADS family will also feature a common platform data link. The shipborne version should be operational by mid-2010s and the land-based variant by the end of the decade.

The Future Local Area Air Defence System - Maritime (FLAADS-M), now Sea Ceptor, is an advanced shipborne air defense system intended for the Royal Navy's Type 26 frigate, formerly known as the Future Surface Combatant, and the future Global Combat Ship. Besides, the same air defense system might be installed onboard Type 23 frigates. The FLAADS will utilize the Common Anti-Air Modular Missile (CAAMM) family to defeat a wide range of threats ranging from fixed-wing aircraft to supersonic anti-ship missiles. MBDA is the prime contractor for this program. FLAADS-M was still at the assessment phase as of March 2010. In January 2012, MBDA was awarded a £483 million contract for the development of the Sea Ceptor air defense system by 2016.

The Future Local Area Air Defence System - Land (FLAADS-L) or FLAADSLand is an advanced ground based air defense system intended as the replacement for the British Army's Rapier/Jernas short-range missile system by 2020. The FLAADS-L will utilize the Common Anti-Air Modular Missile (CAAMM) family to defeat a wide range of threats ranging from fixed-wing aircraft to supersonic anti-ship missiles. MBDA is the prime contractor for this program. The FLAADS-L is expected to leverage technologies including hardware and software from the FLAADS-M ship-based air defense system.
The Medium Advanced Air Defence System (MAADS) uses the CAMM-ER surface-to-air missile and is intended as the replacement for the Aspide air defense system within the Italian Army.
