The Neman-GBOE-250 is a synthetic aperture sonar developed by the V. Tikhomirov Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Design (NIIP) to fit onto Russian Navy's surface ships. The new Neman side-scan sonar is intended as replacement for imported models. The Neman sonar series has high interference immunity, long-range detection, and better resolution than similar foreign equipment on the market. With a single pass of its band, this powerful sonar can read the seabed up to a kilometer in width at depths of 50 to 100 meters. The Russian Ministry of Defense and NIIP signed a contract for the supply of Neman sonar system in the 2015-2017 timeframe on May 2015.
