The Leonardo Airborne and Space Systems PicoSAR active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar has been designed to perform surveillance missions installed on a variety of airborne platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Basically the radar is able to provide ground imagery utilizing the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mode and provide ground moving target information (GMTI) data. The radar can work in both spot and strip modes. The PicoSAR radar developed in the United Kingdom (UK) has been ordered by more than 10 countries worldwide. In February 2017 the PicoSAR radar was selected for the French Army Patroller UAV.
