The Republic of Singapore Navy (RoSN) Type 218SG is a conventionally-powered attack submarine derived from the Type 214 boat and featuring oceanic seagoing capacity and Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system. An X-rudder has been provided for operations in littoral waters while the AIP system will be based on two 120 KW fuel cells allowing this 2,000-ton class vessel to achieve a 20 knot speed. The ship's combat management system will be designed by Atlas Elektronik and ST Electronics. In 2013 Singapore selected ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) to supply two Type 218SG boats after 2020. In May 2017 Singapore ordered an additional two boats to be delivered by 2025. The total cost of the program for four submarines may exceed 3 billion Euros.
Two additional boats ordered in May 2025.
