Israel's Iron Dome Intercepts 122mm Grad Rocket Fired from Gaza

An Iron Dome battery of the Israel Defence Force (IDF) intercepted a 122 mm Grad rocket fired from the Gaza Strip on 9 December.
The rocket was one of 18 fired into Israeli territory between 8 and 10 December in response to an Israeli air strike on 8 December that killed Issam Batash and his nephew Subhi Batash (reportedly members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade and Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades respectively).
It was engaged over Kiryat Malachi, a city south east of Ashdod. Most of the other rockets, some of which were 40-km range Grads, landed harmlessly in the western Negev desert.
"Since the recent IDF operations in Gaza, we have been on elevated alert, due to the high probability of the firing of rockets at Israel," said Captain Elad Tzinmon, commander of the battery. Following IDF attacks against Palestinian targets "our preparedness increases, as we know that they won't sit quietly", he stated
