EL AL Selects Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 Engine to Power 15 Boeing 787-9s

Rolls-Royce today announced Israeli flag carrier El Al has selected its Trent 1000 engines to power 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and will enter into exclusive negotiations with Rolls-Royce.

The airline is also considering entering into TotalCare® long term service support for the engines.

David Maimon, Chief Executive Officer, El Al, said: “We have selected Rolls-Royce after thorough evaluation of our engine choices. We look forward to continue working with Rolls-Royce as we make this important step forward in our fleet development strategy.”

Dominic Horwood, Rolls-Royce, Chief Customer Officer – Civil Large Engines, said: “We are proud that such a valued customer as El Al has selected the Trent 1000. This continues a long and close relationship with El Al and we are delighted they have recognised the economic advantages the Trent 1000 delivers.”

The relationship between Rolls-Royce and El Al dates back more than 50 years when Rolls-Royce powered Boeing 707 aircraft and later the Boeing 757. Today El Al operates six Boeing 777-200ER aircraft powered by Trent 800 engines.

Rolls-Royce powered the very first Boeing 787 test flight in December 2009, the first 787-8 to enter service in October 2011, and the first 787-9 to enter service, in 2014.
