Russian Helicopters Unveils Mi-171A3 Helicopter in AURUS Configuration
Released on Friday, October 18, 2024

The Russian Helicopters holding company of the Rostec State Corporation demonstrated a new modification of the Mi-171A3 helicopter in the AURUS configuration at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum. The rotorcraft can deliver passengers to the most remote points. The project was implemented jointly with PJSC Gazprom, and its coordinator was the subsidiary Gazprom TEKH LLC.

The helicopter is capable of carrying up to ten passengers, its cabin includes everything necessary for a comfortable flight, including long distances. The modification is also planned to be equipped with a special panoramic window.

"Russian helicopters have rightfully earned a reputation as the most reliable in the world. They are successfully operated in difficult conditions. For example, in the tropics, highlands, at extremely low temperatures. Of course, such machines are suitable for business trips. The Mi-171A3 is equipped with a domestic digital onboard equipment complex. It allows you to pilot the helicopter in automatic and manual mode at any time of the day. At the same time, the helicopter does not need external reference points. This makes the flight safe even in thick fog in the mountains or in low clouds," said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation.

The multipurpose Mi-171A3 helicopter is designed to service remote, hard-to-reach sites. It has unique capabilities in its class: the maximum takeoff weight of the machine is 13,000 kg, the flight range with main fuel tanks is more than 850 km. The helicopter can be operated in a wide range of climatic conditions, including the Arctic.

"The Mi-171A3 is the flagship of the Mi-8 family, which embodies all the experience of developing helicopter technology of our holding. This helicopter is a universal platform that can be used not only by oil and gas companies, but also by airlines specializing in cargo, corporate and VIP transportation," said Alexander Danilov, head of the Mi-171A3 Directorate of the Mil and Kamov National Center of Russian Helicopters.

The helicopter complies with all modern Russian and international aviation standards, has a crash-resistant fuselage and fuel system design, and an onboard automated system for monitoring the operation of the main units. All components of the aircraft are Russian-made.

The modernized rotor system consists of a rotor with composite blades of an improved aerodynamic configuration and a highly efficient X-shaped tail rotor. The Mi-171A3 received the latest domestic VK-2500PS-03 engines developed by the United Engine Corporation (part of Rostec). They are equipped with the BARK-6V-7S automatic control system, which increases engine power in emergency mode, maintains modes in a wider range of outside air temperatures and improves fuel efficiency.

The St. Petersburg International Gas Forum is an authoritative expert platform on cooperation in the gas industry. The forum covers all aspects of the gas industry, including exploration, production, transportation of gas and other areas. The event will be held from October 8 to 11, 2024 in St. Petersburg at the Expoforum.
