Russian Government to Fund Development of MC-21-210 Airliner

The government will provide subsidies to the state corporation (SC) Rostec for the development of a draft and technical design for a shortened version of the MS-21 aircraft. The government decree has been posted on the legal information portal, Interfax reports.
The subsidies will allow the funding of work on creating a draft design for a shortened version of the MS-21 to begin. The amount of the subsidy is not specified in the government decree.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the costs of developing the preliminary design for the MS-21-210 will amount to 1.94 billion rubles in 2024-2025.
"Rostec and the recipient of the subsidy, PJSC UAC, must provide design documentation confirming the technical feasibility of the project to create a shortened modification of the aircraft by December 31, 2025," Interfax quotes part of the text of the resolution.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade clarified that the work will be carried out within the framework of already allocated funding; no additional costs will be required from the federal budget.
Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov said that the shortened version of the MS-21-210 will accommodate up to 160-170 passengers.
The developer of the MS-21 family of aircraft is the Yakovlev Design Bureau (part of UAC Rostec). The basic version is the MS-21-310 aircraft , which can accommodate up to 211 passengers. The maximum flight range of the MS-21-310 will be 5,100 km, the maximum takeoff weight is 85 tons.
The comprehensive program for the development of the aviation industry envisages that serial production of the MC-21-310 will begin in 2025. Chemezov announced on January 24 that the aircraft will go into production in 2026.
