Javelin
Initial Operational Capability (IOC) : 1996
Total Production : 54,200
Total Cost : USD $4.5 billion
The Javelin subsonic, anti-tank, anti-bunker missile automatically guides itself to the target after launch using its IR seeker. It uses an arched top-attack profile to strike where the armor is weakest. It can be safely fired from inside buildings or bunkers making it suitable for urban area warfare. The Javelin missile is capable of defeating all-known main battle tanks thanks to its tandem shaped charge warhead and its top-attack profile. The missile travels at more than 100-foot (30 meters) altitude before coming down to strike its intended target.
