The Scorpion is a low cost, unpowered, lightweight, compact munition designed to allow a man-in-the-loop to engage a broad target set on the ground with reduced possibility of collateral damage. It can be released from both fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft as well as manned and unmanned airborne platforms. Targets include structures, personnel, lightly armored vehicles, trucks, cars, missile launchers, and artillery or gun positions. Lockheed Martin started the flight test program of the Scorpion glider in June 2010.

Scorpion utilizes a semi-active laser (SAL) for terminal guidance and GPS/INS navigation to get to the target area. It can be tailored to use imaging infrared (I2R), shortwave infrared (SWIR), or millimeter wave (MMW) seekers. These high precision seekers deliver a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of less than one meter. Scorpion can be deployed from various tube launch systems currently in use or from the M-299/M-310 launch system used to launch Hellfire missiles from helicopters and Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs).
